March 26, 2026: Knots with Nikki
6pm social and potluck with 7pm with Nikki
Back by popular demand, Nikki from Tacoma Women's Sailing Association is returning and this time we're leveling things up a bit....Instead of just trying knots, Nikki will walk us through the whens and whys behind them - when to use certain knots, how they behave under load and where they actually come into play while racing or cruising. Whether you're trimming sheets on the race course or managing lines while cruising the Salish Sea, this will be a fun and practical night for sailors of all experience levels.
Potluck with Dockside Dips: We'll provide a Dockside dip spread as the anchor and everyone is invited to bring something to add to the table - crackers, veggies, bread, chips, salads, snacks or desserts.
February 26, 2026: Northwest Passage Story of Sailing Adventure
6pm social and potluck with 7pm with Shauna and Sandy
The Northwest Passage, a historically impassable arctic route between the Pacific and North Atlantic Oceans, has become more navigable during the summer months due to changing ice conditions. Since 1991, only about 150 pleasure boats have made this passage and in 2024 the crew of SV Dogbark completed this iconic route over 74 days, turning a historic dream into a modern maritime reality. Facing scarce resources and complex logistics in some of the world’s most remote and barren regions, Shauna Walgren (Hughes) and Sandy Lam sailed 7,000 nautical miles from Sitka, Alaska, to Twillingate, Newfoundland. In addition to unpredictable winds, ice, currents, and weather, their story includes extraordinary wildlife encounters—including polar bears—and meaningful moments connecting with Inuit communities. This talk brings life to the ongoing transformation of the Arctic, the practical realities of small-boat exploration, and the deep connection between sailors and the sea.
January 22, 2026: Sail Trim Wisdom from Jennifer
A great kick off session for the year! Fantastic turn out--thank you all for joining and the warm, yummy food! JJ's presentation was full of useful information for both novice and experienced sailors. Plus she kept the talk fun and light. We had a room of mostly racers with a couple of cruisers looking to learn about getting the best performance out of their boats and sails. AND YES there was a boat in the room!
